Vintage sewing card

A few months ago I bought 100's of sewing patterns from our local antique store. They had been selling them individually for awhile and now they were ready to get rid of them. They had bundled them in groups of 10 or so for only $1.00. I love to buy in bulk, you never know when you might need a lot of something for a class. So I began a series of vintage style sewing cards. I really enjoyed doing them as they are more of a collage style, which I have always struggled with. Well I had to put them away for awhile during holiday time and I thought that I would do a run of them for a few days or so. Most of the patterns are from the 60's-70's, which I just love! What I do focuses on the front artwork of the package. I then incorporate pieces of patterns and some of the packaging. Of course I then add other real sewing notions. I will often use various sewing themed stamps and die-cuts.

I started with a piece of my favorite fabric, recycled denim.

I then took my tonic scratch tool to help fray the edges even more.

A long skinny piece of pattern paper makes a great bow! I also wrapped some of the string from the denim around it to secure and add another bow. I thought it turned out very cute!

I had already started cutting these out awhile back so I just had to decide which one(s) to use.

I just loved this one, she looks to be enjoying some warm weather. We are freezing here in northern Indiana. I adhered her to some light weight chipboard I had around, you could use card stock or recycle some food packaging. It just adds some sturdiness to the cut-outs.

This strip is just some of the info on the back of the package. I accordion folded it for depth and then used my Tim Holtz stapler to attach it. I put some pop dots on the girl to give her even more dimension.

Next I added a piece of vintage lace trim, which I also have an abundance of. The final step was adding some vintage notions. I put some buttons, still on their original card, and some pins and a safety pin. I am really happy with how it turned out! Thanks again for stopping by!
